A letter, released yesterday from DC Council chairman Phil Mendelson and five other council members, argues DC shouldn't pay what Virginia expects. That could lead Virginia or Maryland to pull back on their own contributions, leaving Metro with not enough money for needed repairs and upgrades.

With the kinks worked out, dockless bike sharing could roll
Bright orange, green and yellow bikes are sprouting up all around central D.C. and Silver Spring, with a smattering elsewhere. They go by Jump, Spin, LimeBike, Mobike and ofo (written in all lowercase, to look typographically like a bike symbol). This is dockless bike sharing, the newest arrow in the region’s transportation quiver.

Congress is poised to take away many of the potential tools cities and states could use to shape the way automatic vehicles affect our transportation networks. Please ask your senators (if you have some) to give this issue more study and deliberation.

The latest bikeshare offering in DC is the dockless Jump e-bike which debuted yesterday. We took it for a spin. The electric assist make it a joy to zoom up hills and keep up with vehicular traffic.

On Wednesday, September 20, DC three private, dockless bikeshare companies launched in DC: Mobike, LimeBike, and Spin. A fourth, Jump, is launching Monday with electric-assist bikes.
